EuroGOOS and the Oceanography Center of the University of Cyprus invite you to participate in the strategic meeting organised on the 10th of October 2012 in Nicosia under the auspices of the Cyprus EU presidency.
The Nicosia Declaration
During the meeting a long‐term Strategic Partnership agreement was worked out by the MyOcean2 board and the National Agencies & Institutes of Member States, members of EuroGOOS, which is now known as “The Nicosia Declaration“. Download the declaration.
The goal of the meeting is to develop a long‐term Strategic Partnership between National Agencies and Institutes and the Global and European Ocean Monitoring and Forecasting capacity, which is being structured for delivering the GMES Marine Service.
The development model of operational oceanography in Europe is undergoing a profound mutation driven by a positive expectation from our users and a strong willingness of the EU to support, via the GMES programme, the transition to a sustainable service based on a pan‐ European cooperation. The EuroGOOS community responds remarkably well to this challenge, especially by taking in 2012 the structuring initiatives required by this context.
ΕuroGOOS warmly invites its members to take this opportunity in Nicosia to set up the Strategic Partnership required for a GMES Marine service, strengthening the whole operational oceanography capacity in Europe.The meeting will be hosted by the University of Cyprus Oceanography Center at the University of Cyprus Campus in Nicosia, Cyprus

Travelling to/from Nicosia
Once arriving at Larnaca Airport you may take a taxi to Nicosia or take a shuttle bus. The journey takes approximately 45 minutes.
Taxis from Larnaca to Nicosia cost approximately €50 for early morning and evening and €40 for day. Send an email to andriak@ucy.ac.cy if you would like a taxi transfer arranged.

From the drop off/pickup point of Kapnos Airport Shuttle there is a public bus from/to the Hilton Park Hotel:
You need to take route 502. You will notice that the starting point is the Hilton Park Hotel and finish point is Kapnos Airport shuttle.
The journey takes approximately 30 minutes.
Venue of the Meeting
The workshop will take place at the Social Facilities Building, Room 105 at the University of Cyprus New Campus at Aglantzia, Nicosia.
